Electric and natural gas: Duke Energy
Duke Energy provides electric and natural gas service in Northern Kentucky. You can report a power outage online, through the Duke Energy app, or by texting OUT to 57801. To check the status of outages around you, use Duke's outage map.
Treat every downed power line as energized. Stay away and report it right away.
If you smell gas, leave the building immediately and keep others away. From a safe place, call 911 and then Duke Energy's gas emergency line at 800.634.4300.
Water: Northern Kentucky Water District
The Northern Kentucky Water District (NKWD) supplies drinking water. Its board meets at noon on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the district office in Erlanger. The Kentucky Public Service Commission regulates its rates, fees and charges.
Your NKWD account also drives your sewer bill: SD1 bills sewer service from water district records, so starting or stopping sewer service is done through NKWD.

Sewer and stormwater: SD1
Sanitation District No. 1 of Northern Kentucky (SD1) treats wastewater and manages stormwater for 29 cities and parts of three counties.
SD1’s fiscal year 2027 residential sewer rates are a $40/month base rate, which covers the first 2 HCF of water, plus a $5/month environmental surcharge and $4 per HCF above 2 HCF. Your variable charge is based on your winter water use. For NKWD customers, SD1 measures the November 1–April 30 meter readings, so lawn watering doesn’t count against you.
Single-family homes also pay a flat stormwater fee of $3.70 a month for one equivalent residential unit (ERU), reduced from $3.90 in fiscal year 2027.
Report sewer emergencies, including basement backups, overflows, overland flooding and collapsed pipes, at 859-578-7450, option 1. The private sewer lateral from your house to the public sewer is the homeowner's responsibility, but SD1 runs a Backup Assistance Program and a Private Lateral Repair Program that can help.
