Kenton County Public Works will host its annual Fall Clean-Up event the first weekend of October, giving Kenton County residents an opportunity to dispose of a variety of household items, yard debris, scrap metal, tires and other materials.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, at Kenton County Public Works, 420 Independence Station Road, in the back lot.

The clean-up is open to Kenton County residents only. Participants must provide proof of residency, such as a driver's license with a current address or a current trash bill. Businesses, including side businesses involving auto work, construction or junk removal, will not be accepted.

Items accepted include:

  • Appliances. A $25 fee applies to appliances containing Freon. Freon-containing appliances may also be dropped off at Kenton County Public Works Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Mattresses and box springs, limited to two per household.
  • Yard waste and tree debris. Heavy tree limbs and stumps are NOT accepted.
  • Electronics, including items with a power cord. Limited to two TVs and monitors per household.
  • Vehicle and rechargeable batteries
  • Lawn equipment, provided all oil and gas have been removed
  • Scrap metal
  • Tires, with a maximum of four standard automobile tires per household. Additional standard auto tires are $3 each. Semi, farm and tractor tires are not accepted.

Items not accepted include:

  • Hazardous household materials
  • Pesticides
  • Paint and stains
  • Liquid waste
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Tanks, cylinders and propane tanks
  • Oil and antifreeze
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Shingles
  • Concrete, stone, brick, pavers or dirt
  • Junk vehicles, including boats
  • U-Hauls or other loads consisting primarily of household furniture from clean-outs

Residents with household hazardous waste should plan to attend Kenton County's Household Hazardous Waste event on Nov. 1 at Thomas More Stadium in Florence. Free paint hardeners are also available for residents who need to dispose of paint. Visit http://www.nkyhhw.org/ for more information.

Kenton County Public Works reserves the right to refuse any item at its discretion.

For the safety of residents and Public Works employees, all open loads must be covered with a tarp and loose items must be securely strapped down. Participants are responsible for unloading their own vehicles.
